Kamchatka Sunsets: One of the Reasons I Love Kamchatka

One of the reasons you should come to Kamchatka, if you need one, is the breathtaking sunsets.

They are especially wonderful to watch in summer. Summer in Kamchatka is short and very northern, and it can often be cold as well. But the sunsets here are something else.

They can have almost surreal colors: orange turning into shades of pink and purple. This is often explained by the way the air and clouds interact with the light, creating unusual colors in the sky.

It also seems to happen especially often before good weather. A beautiful sunset can sometimes be a sign that the next day will bring better weather.

And then there is the sky itself. It feels incredibly high and wide here, much more expansive than in many other regions. So when you look out the window, the whole picture can sometimes feel almost unreal — like something from a fantasy.

You can watch the sunsets from many different places, including right in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. You can watch one from the city center, where the views are beautiful. And really, wherever you look, the view can be impressive.

You can also drive out toward a volcano, wait for the sunset, and watch it from there. Now that would be something else.

Or you can simply watch it from your own window. I am lucky that the windows of my apartment face several directions, so in the evenings I can see the sunsets and clouds in all kinds of shades.

As I said, the colors can range from orange to pink. And as the sun goes down, the light keeps changing.

It really is amazing. Take a look at the photos — it looks incredibly cool.

And this is one of the things I love about Kamchatka.

I think having a good view around you is actually quite important. Even the view from your own window can affect your mood. When I lived in another apartment, unfortunately, my view was a hill and some old, rusty metal garages. It was a little depressing.

Now I have the chance to look out at views like these.

I wish you good views, beautiful pictures, and a good mood.

To be continued.
